The Aldi-Süd/Hofer discount supermarket chain, which has more than 4,360 branches in 9 different countries, arrived in Slovenia in 2004. The Carniolan Investment Company assumed the responsibility for developing supermarket locations throughout Slovenia and for selecting a location for a new logistics centre. To date 61 Hofer supermarkets have been opened, supplied by the new logistics centre in Prevoje near Lukovica, built in 2007. The individual supermarkets occupy sites of between 8,000 and 12,000 m2, while the supermarket buildings themselves measure approximately 1,400 m2. The logistics centre occupies a 26 hectare site with over 75,000 m2 of warehouse space. The construction of new locations is currently under way and we expect to have a total of 80 supermarkets open within the next two years.
