The constant commitment of the company to ethical conduct, economic development and improving the quality of life of employees, their families, the local community and society as a whole is the basis of our understanding of social responsibility as defined by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Social responsibility is written into the vision and mission of the Carniolan Investment Company group.
We bring a new quality of life to the environment and set new standards with modern architecture and all the projects we have realised since our founding. In this way we play an active part in promoting the development of the environment and the urban centres in which we operate. Through our functional projects, our architectural presence in the landscape and our active involvement in the sphere of cultural heritage, we have an influence on the wider field of social activities and social development.
We devote considerable attention to the conservation of cultural heritage. Our proudest achievement is the restoration of the Pule Estate, today one of the most prestigious country estates in Slovenia, first mentioned in historical sources in as early as 1371. In the early 17th century it became the property of the Anderlič family, who passed it on from generation to generation until 1933. The grandson of the last owner has returned to the estate after a hiatus of 71 years and thoroughly restored it with love and great respect for its heritage, both natural and cultural.
We have provided financial support for – or funded in full – the restoration of numerous religious monuments, including the Church of St Francis Xavier in Vesela Gora, complete with the Way of the Cross, the Church of St Rupert in Šentrupert, the Church of St Peter in Ljubljana, the Church of St Anthony of Padua and many others. We have also supported the restoration of historic instruments (organs) in the churches in Vesela Gora and Šentrupert and in the cathedral in Novo Mesto. We have restored a collection of paintings by the baroque painter Anton Postl and various historic manuscripts. We have also been responsible for the publication of numerous books. One of our recent contributions has been the erecting of the first statue of Pope John Paul II in Rome, by the renowned Slovene sculptor Mirko Bratuša, unveiled in 2008.
For a number of years we have been a sponsor of the Ljubljana Festival, the most important summer cultural event in Slovenia's capital city, which has a significant influence on cultural life in Slovenia as a whole. The festival brings more than 3,000 performers to the city for a programme of around 80 cultural events that are seen each year by approximately 80,000 domestic and foreign visitors. As part of our support for the Ljubljana Festival, we also made a donation towards the recent erecting of a statue of Gustav Mahler.
We are the founders and supporters of the St Rupert Wind Orchestra in Šentrupert, in this way contributing to improving the quality of cultural life in rural areas of Slovenia.
The St Rupert Wind Orchestra was founded in 1999. Today the orchestra, led by conductor Boštjan Dimnik, can boast a repertoire of over 60 pieces of various genres. Its members – of whom there are already more than 50 – include musicians from all over the Dolenjska region and even from the neighbouring Posavje region.
Because we believe in the power of knowledge for the future, we provide financial support to educational institutions such as the University of Ljubljana and the Parus Foundation and provide scholarships to students in a variety of fields.
We support the activity of civil society organisations and provide financial assistance to encourage efforts to achieve a better quality of life across wider society.
